THE BONDING MATERNITY NECKLACE

The Ilado Maternity Necklace, a magnificent piece of jewelry featuring a pendant that rests on the belly, is also designed to strengthen the prenatal bond between a mother and her child. Laeticia, a hypnotherapist and founder of a Pregnancy Care Center in Nice, France, explains how to use your Maternity Necklace as part of a bonding ritual: a moment when you are attuned to your own emotions and feelings, a moment when you can listen to your child and develop a connection.

« The whispering Maternity Necklace »

The fetus, which is sensitive to stimuli within its environment, is able to detect sounds by week 17 and can process information from all five senses by week 19. It is at this stage that it begins to form a connection with its parents. By the end of the 2nd trimester, the fetus will measure about 25 cm from the head to the coccyx and will weigh around 1 kilogram.

The fetal sense of hearing begins between the 2nd and 3rd trimester, from week 26 to 28. Around this time, the unborn child will be soothed by sounds coming from the mother’s cardiac, digestive and circulatory systems. Babies can also detect sounds outside the womb such as voices, especially their mother’s which is amplified and twice as loud as other voices, as well as music (particularly rhythms and bass sounds) and noises from engines and machinery. It should be noted that low frequency sounds, like dad’s voice or low-pitched notes, are the easiest to make out. The abdominal wall filters out and muffles high-pitched sounds, lowering the intensity to a level of 20 to 50 decibels, which is equivalent to whispering.

Therefore, the soft tinkling of the Maternity Necklace would be like a whisper which, once perceived, is soothing to baby because of its gentle rhythm and low frequency, but also because of its calming effect on the mother.

A bonding ritual with your unborn child

In addition to being a beautiful piece of jewelry, the Maternity Necklace will help you to connect with your unborn child through a daily bonding ritual:

- Begin by exploring the different sounds emitted as the pendant moves and jingles on your belly or is rolled in the palm of your hand.

- Mark this moment of connection with your child with a gesture, for example, by placing one hand on your tummy and holding your Maternity Necklace in the palm of your other hand.

- Take a few minutes to be totally present in the here and now…Perhaps you can perceive colors, shapes and sensations that your relaxed mind allows you to experience. You can also enter into a deeper state of relaxation through self-hypnosis.

This ritual will not only create a connection between you and your unborn child, but can also be beneficial beyond pregnancy. After birth, the chimes of the Maternity Necklace can induce a new state of wellbeing in your newborn, or serve as a reminder of the prenatal bond and the familiar comforting sounds perceived within the womb.

In fact, studies have shown than newborns can often “remember” sounds heard inside the womb. For this reason, it is important to create a connection with your unborn child. This also applies to expecting fathers! Talk to your baby out loud or in a soft voice, and make sure to use your Maternity Necklace as part of a daily ritual to calm yourself and soothe your baby.
